favorite things – part 10

well, i don’t really know how to sum it up in one word exactly.. one of my favorite things is just being around people who are in a community, not necessarily my community (though i love that as well) but being a part of a group of people or even one person, in their life, even for a moment. like when we had our ‘major big news power outage of san diego 2011’ [so dramatic] it was so fun for me to go out the next day, everyone was talking about it, people at the grocery store, gym and post office. it was so fun, just for that brief instant, to be connected to people to whom i wouldn’t have otherwise said two words. when we went to ireland a few years ago we found a small town named doolin. it was our favorite place to see during our adventure. a tiny coastal town easily traversed in an afternoon. the best part about places like that is the opportunity to discover things typically overlooked. we wandered, we chatted, we found this pub with some local musicians playing and inspiring. a snapshot into their lives, on the other side of the world.

favorite things – part 9

when it comes to pets…i wouldn’t classify myself as a dog or cat person.  i’ve always liked all kinds of animals and we had a modern day farm growing up in our concreted back yard with bunnies, birds, rats (much to my mother’s chagrin) and a turtle among others. and i’ve always wanted certain animals like otters and alpacas…but i dream… fast forward to married life and it turns out we’re both pretty allergic to most animals and so besides our two bunnies in the backyard (but that’s another story), we didn’t have any big plans to get a pet. on jared’s birthday this year we were over by our local pet store and noticed that they had a bunch of dogs in the front brought over by the humane society. we just happened to meet this cutie pie and kinda impulse adopted her 🙂 she’s such a happy lovey dog and she’s my new favorite thing.  we go running (one of my least favorite things) together and she also likes hanging out at mocha marketplace with my brother. i’m still not a ‘dog person’, i just like this one.

favorite things – part 8

one of the things i’ve always admired about the magic of photography was the ability to capture something in the moment, the subtle smile, the quick glance, the movement frozen in time. growing up i would just stare at photos, noticing something different each time. i was in heaven when i learned on my mom’s old 35mm camera because i could snap a photo at precisely the moment i wanted. when i was in college one of my roommates had philippe halsman’s jump book (i wish i had this book!!!!). this book always inspired me, partly because the photos were terrific but mostly because he showed that with all the seriousness of the art of photography, it can also be, and should be, fun. his idea was that people really let loose when they jumped and showed their true emotions in that moment. he got so many famous people to jump at the end of their photo shoots through the years and i always thought those were some of the best pictures. so we’ve taken that philosophy into our photos. when we travel, we never take ourselves too seriously and when we have photo shoots, if we ask you to jump, now you’ll know why 🙂 look below to see some of the jump shots we’ve grabbed at photo shoots recently.

here’s us…

and here are some of our awesome clients!

favorite things – part 7

when i was 15 i went to australia by myself to visit some friends and one of the families wanted to make a meal for me, an american meal. so they asked what american food was and the only thing i could think of was mexican. so they took me to the store and found a burrito kit, yes a burrito kit. i thought it was so ridiculous, i mean, who doesn’t know how to make burritos? so when jared and i were traveling to that neck of the woods many years later we found this in the grocery store. i guess they still haven’t figured out how to make mexican food on their own. there’s nothing like the real thing living in san diego and it’s one of our favorite foods…
