here’s another travel from ’09 a little closer to home. we decided for our 2nd anniversary that we would do the same thing as our first anniversary, camping in julian. one of the days we decided to do a day trip to the salton sea. we’d been there before, and i’ll post pics of that at some point. this time, we drove around the entire sea and found this gem (with a little tip from our friends at zelophoto).

this guy leonard broke down here in the 80′s, felt that it was meant to be and decided to not only stay but also build on and paint the hillside. he gets donations of paint and bales of hay and this is his creation…enjoy!

we got a pic with leonard, he’s a pretty sweet old guy, i was already on the ‘tour’ when he grabbed my arm and asked me to join the tour…two different times, haha

it’s surprisingly sturdy!

i love that we caught him checking his mail, does the mail really come all the way out to the middle of nowhere?!

doolin, ireland – ’09

blogging some travels by city…here’s one from ’09

this was our favorite favorite city in ireland, quaint and lovely with lots of fun experiences.

we bring an old tripod with us when we travel so we can do pics with the two of us…this one took a few tries :/

one of the neat things about ireland is just finding old ruins wherever we went. it’s so cool to see countries with such a rich history

well well well…

i don’t want to brag, but i do make a lot of friends when i travel..

this town has a population of 500 and there are just as many signs

apparently big foot was irish, who knew?

definitely enjoyed the night life here, the guy on the right was helping encourage young musicians to think outside the box by using other objects to make music. he bought the washboard and thimbles for under 10 bucks.

we chatted with someone at our b&b and they asked if we had gone to this little cottage. we hadn’t so we decided to check it out. they sell pottery that they make and they have the pieces set out all over the yard and garage. when we went inside, we found a note that said that if they weren’t home to just leave money in the tin. what a different world, no one trusts people like that here! it was one of our favorite memories from this trip and i have our little pot sitting on my kitchen window sill. of course we just stole the pot, suckers!!

and i’ll tell you a secret, it was the only one we did, these two are rock stars!

courtland and ashleigh had a small ceremony in courtland’s mom’s backyard. we shot their ceremony and some portraits afterward. i’ve known courland since he was born and i was in third grade, his sister and i have been friends since we were three, useless facts for ya!

while on the pier, people kept stopping to thank courtland for serving our country, and courtland left soon after the wedding to go serve in korea, keep up the good work!

hey there, as you can see our blog has been a little empty lately and quite behind with postings. well, part of the reason is that we are busy keeping up with and updating our main business SidebySide Cinema and of course preparing for the holidays. we have also been working on our house enjoying our dog. we have been restructuring our business a little and are going to continue to focus mainly on our cinema business while keeping SidebySide Photography as a hobby and personal blog. we will continue to post the shoots we have done this year but will only be taking on future clients as time allows. so please enjoy our love for photography and visit often and i promise we’ll be better about posting our work.

favorite things – part 10

well, i don’t really know how to sum it up in one word exactly.. one of my favorite things is just being around people who are in a community, not necessarily my community (though i love that as well) but being a part of a group of people or even one person, in their life, even for a moment. like when we had our ‘major big news power outage of san diego 2011′ [so dramatic] it was so fun for me to go out the next day, everyone was talking about it, people at the grocery store, gym and post office. it was so fun, just for that brief instant, to be connected to people to whom i wouldn’t have otherwise said two words. when we went to ireland a few years ago we found a small town named doolin. it was our favorite place to see during our adventure. a tiny coastal town easily traversed in an afternoon. the best part about places like that is the opportunity to discover things typically overlooked. we wandered, we chatted, we found this pub with some local musicians playing and inspiring. a snapshot into their lives, on the other side of the world.

Yamia and Asaf’s business has grown and because of that they’ve had to move into a new building! Yamia, with her lovely interior design skills, made the place beautiful and also decorated for the event. They had an early morning ribbon cutting with some speeches and then all the employees got to see the new space they’d be working in for the first time.
