Photo Friday #5

So following in failblog’s footsteps, I had a “failure” of my own this week. Jared had bronchitis last week and I felt under the weather this week so I thought I’d stop by the Frazier Farms and grab a few soups. Chicken noodle sounded especially good to me but as I looked I had a really hard time finding anything that resembled chicken soup. Feeling rather bummed, I finally came across this lovely picture of soup! A minor success!

BUT, then I read the label, “No Chicken Noodle”…what?!?! So…hmm..

I looked for another few minutes and feeling rather “done”, I gave up and bought it anyway. Turns out, it means “no chicken” not “no chicken noodle”, it’s tofu. Whatever, it tasted close enough to chicken noodle. I guess that’s what you get at the health food stores!

Photo Friday #3

So as I was going through a small box of memories I have on a book shelf, I came across this awesome memior. In this particular box, I have old ticket stubs, old work name tags and then this random photo. By looking closely I saw that the certificate is for Student of the Month. I’m guessing it was for the month of November based on the turkey die cut.

I’ll say, it’s a good thing I had good grades and the teachers liked me because I obviously didn’t know how to keep my eyes open for a picture!

Finding this forgotten picture this morning totally made my day!

Holiday Highlights

We stayed around this year for Christmas and New Year’s Day and December was full of fun!! Here are some highlights of the season for us:

My Opa (grandpa) turned 80 December 14th but he’s going to get his very own post after this one with more pictures and a video/slide show = yippee!!

I turned 27 on December 16th. I’m not old, but I’m getting close to being able to say things like “when I was your age…” or “things just aren’t made the way they used to be…” πŸ™‚ Well, this is the second birthday I’ve been able to enjoy with my husband and he really gave me a great birthday! Here are some pretty flowers in an awesome vase!!!

We stayed home with dinner and a movie (He made me a wonderful dinner). Then we decided to finally put together the gingerbread house. It’s the first one I can remember making. I guess my mom can correct me if I made one when I was a kid. But at least I know I haven’t made one in a LONG time! AND IT SHOWS! They are harder to make than they look. I guess the nice thing when making these is when you get “glue” on your hands, you get to lick it off πŸ™‚
Christmas was nice and a lot more normal than usual. For the first time in a few years, all 5 of my immediate family were here! No one was traveling or anything! See, last year we had to use a photo of my brother for the family photo, but not this year πŸ™‚

Christmas ’07

Christmas ’08
Christmas ’08 – all 7 of us πŸ™‚

We also all got matching pajamas from the Z family modeled so beautifully here:

The gentleman and I worked on some photography projects which I will start blogging about very soon.

New Year’s Eve is always fun but we didn’t bring a camera, so no pictures πŸ™‚

And as far as “photo a day” well…I’ve changed that to Photo Fridays. That’s right, I can’t handle the commitment of one a day so I’ve decided once a week will be better. A photo and a question or story. I think it will be fun. So I’m starting…NOW!

This is a photo of a clock I made. For Christmas I made people in my families clocks out of plates! I think they turned out pretty fun. So, what’s your favorite thing you’ve ever made anyone?

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year’s Day!
2009, what will be in store?

Advent Part 2

Here’s our part 2 of Advent. The theme for the week is Bethlehem. Here are the pictures we put up along with the text. We tried to make all these pictures look simple since Jesus came to Earth in a simple way. The next two themes are Praise and Jesus. I’ll post them soon πŸ™‚
β€œAnd you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; For out of you shall come forth A RULER who will shepherd my people Israel.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.”
Tell me what you think about this project so far…I would love some constructive criticism.

Advent

We are part of our worship service’s (Resonate) creative team. A while back the worship leader thought of gathering a team of people to come up with creative ways to keep the service interesting and fresh. We didn’t want people coming to this service expecting the same thing week in and week out. We came up with lots of ideas to incorporate art including painting, photography, videography and murals. Of course we were mostly intrigued with using photography and videography. It has been a fun adventure and we have enjoyed using our God-given talents in this way!
So the most recent project we worked on for the Christmas season was Advent. The gentleman grew up with his family celebrating advent but I wasn’t super familiar with it. Advent in Latin means coming and it is meant to put you in the right mindset for the true meaning of Christmas. You light candles and do a devotional reading of a few verses per night to remember that we are celebrating Christ coming into the world. It’s second purpose is to remind ourselves that we are waiting for the second coming as well. So our project for the chapel was to come up with photos that depict the different themes of each week of advent. Week one’s theme is Prophecy. Here are the photos and text that we put up.

PROPHECY – “the people who walk in darkness will see a great light…For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us…And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace”
If you haven’t celebrated Advent before, check it out. Don’t make it something that makes you too busy in this already crazy season, but maybe take some time out and read the story of Jesus’s birth or just pray and thank God for all the things we are blessed with including salvation! Even in rough times, living here in the U.S. is a blessing, we have so many freedoms and so so much here.
There is always something to be thankful for.
I’ll post the rest of the Advent weeks as we finish them. I’ll also try to post more things that we do for Resonate, including Songs of Christmas! If you aren’t doing anything on the 20th (this coming Saturday) come to Resonate for our Christmas concert. We will be filming it so if anything we’ll post a few songs online. Happy Advent!

Happy Anniversary to us!!!

Well, it’s been a year of fun and excitement. Partly it feels like we’ve been married forever, not in a bad way of course, but because we know each other so well and are so comfortable together. The other part of me feels like it’s gone by so fast and there are still days where I suddenly remember I’m married and it’s a little shocking. I guess 1 year of being married doesn’t undo a mindset of 25 years of not being married (does that makes sense?). But seriously, we’ve had so much fun together and I really appreciate the family and friends who have supported us and love us and pray for us.So, yay us! 1 year and still going! I guess it’s not that much of an accomplishment compared to 50 years but still, it’s exciting to us!

Soon I’ll post pics from our anniversary weekend, wahoo!
