Photo Friday #5

So following in failblog’s footsteps, I had a “failure” of my own this week. Jared had bronchitis last week and I felt under the weather this week so I thought I’d stop by the Frazier Farms and grab a few soups. Chicken noodle sounded especially good to me but as I looked I had a really hard time finding anything that resembled chicken soup. Feeling rather bummed, I finally came across this lovely picture of soup! A minor success!

BUT, then I read the label, “No Chicken Noodle”…what?!?! So…hmm..

I looked for another few minutes and feeling rather “done”, I gave up and bought it anyway. Turns out, it means “no chicken” not “no chicken noodle”, it’s tofu. Whatever, it tasted close enough to chicken noodle. I guess that’s what you get at the health food stores!

New blog favs.

So recently (right around the time I came across the videos a couple posts ago) I also came across 2 blogs that I can’t get enough of! Please explore a few pages of these blogs…there is some good stuff in there and will definitely brighten your day 🙂

#1 – Fail Blog
Here is an example of what you would find on the site. I like it because of how simple it is. FAIL, that’s awesome! Plus, many of the pictures remind me of signs I saw in Asia, misspelled or not making sense.

#2 – Cake Wrecks
This blog is all about cakes that have gone wrong…but not just any cakes, professional ones! There are so many I could post about, but since I’m in the wedding business, I’ll have to post a picture of THE BEST WEDDING CAKE EVER! Here you go, and you’re welcome.

mmm…choco mint snaps = yummy end of january goodness.

i love how they crack when they bake = beautiful.

**UPDATE** (feb. 3)
ok here’s the recipe 🙂

4 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1/3 cup light corn syrup
2 1/2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons peppermint extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
additional sugar for rolling (or powdered sugar)

Melt chocolate squares in the top of a double boiler over simmering water; set aside to cool. Preheat oven to 350 F. In a small bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, using an electronic mixer at medium speed, cream together the shortening and 2 cups sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and blend well. Add reserved chocolate, corn syrup, water and extracts and blend well. Stir in flour mixture until just blended. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in additional sugar and place about 2-inches apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes. Cool a few minutes on baking sheet and transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Have a party in your mouth.

Photo Friday #3

So as I was going through a small box of memories I have on a book shelf, I came across this awesome memior. In this particular box, I have old ticket stubs, old work name tags and then this random photo. By looking closely I saw that the certificate is for Student of the Month. I’m guessing it was for the month of November based on the turkey die cut.

I’ll say, it’s a good thing I had good grades and the teachers liked me because I obviously didn’t know how to keep my eyes open for a picture!

Finding this forgotten picture this morning totally made my day!

Photo Friday #2

Because I usually have my camera whenever I go somewhere for more than a few hours (besides work of course) I have the opportunity to take pictures of random things in life. These pictures tend to get lost in the rest because they are all by themselves but I recently came across this gem and felt like I needed to share it with you. We were headed up to Julian for a nice day (the day before the fires started there actually) and saw this sign driving by. We immediately stopped, turned around and took a picture.
